Description
- Trees produce nutmegs around age 5, and the total lifespan of a tree is up to 60 years. Fresh nutmeg pulp can be removed to expose the seed kernels that become dried nutmegs. Grated nutmeg becomes nutmeg powder, used as a spice across the world.
- The nut is also dried until the kernel inside rattles. Nutmeg requires a hot, humid climate without pronounced dry season, with an annual rainfall of 150 cm and more. It grows well from sea level up to about 1300 m above sea level
- Nutmeg trees may reach a height of about 60ft tall. Grafted varieties usually tend to grow straight and therefore you can maintain smaller spacing between each plant. It has a warm and comforting taste and aroma with nutty, earthy and slightly sweet, but not sugary flavour.
